Occupational Cancer: the Leading Cause of Compensated Work-related Deaths

holding handsOccupational cancer is now the leading cause of compensated work-related deaths in Canada. It surpassed those from accidents and injuries, according to a new research published in CMAJ Open.

An analysis data from the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada to understand trends in financial compensation for deaths shows that lung cancer is the most common compensated workplace cancer. The compensation for occupational cancer deaths has increased.

Ontario, the largest province in Canada, is accounted for half of all the compensated deaths from work-related cancers.
