Roofer Who Fell Off a Ladder Suffered from Vertigo

man working on the roof52-year-old Barry Lock, a roofer who fell from a ladder to his death, was on medication for vertigo.

According to Eastbourne Hearald, Lock had been carrying roof battens up the ladder when he slipped and fell to the ground. His brother and business partner Kevin Lock was able to rush to him and an ambulance responded to the accident. He was airlifted to Kings College Hospital but died two days later because of severe head injuries.

“No health and safety laws were breached,” she said. “Mr Lock was an experienced roofer.”

Lock was an experienced roofer and he has his own company, the KBM Roofing. The inquest heard that he had been on medication for vertigo and a post mortem examination revealed that he also had a mild underlying heart condition which East Sussex deputy coroner Christopher Wilkinson said may also have caused him to fall from the roof.
