Surfers Recall Accident after Paddler’s Death

Back in the water Thursday afternoon, regulars at “Straight Out”, just off Kewalo Waterfront Park, recalled the freaky accident that resulted to the death of one of the regular surfers, Roy Ito, Jr.

According to witnesses, he got on his board, did a couple of paddles, went limp, and all they could see was a pool of blood. The other surfers brought him out of the water and he was taken into the Queen’s Medical Center but died later on.

An autopsy was ordered by the city medical examiner’s office, but the surfers insist that the skeg on Ito’s board may have cut his thigh and severed an artery.
